Runners, walkers and supporters of the June E. Nylen Cancer Center still have time to join the 16th annual Race for Hope, to be held Saturday, September 15, 2012 at the Adams Homestead and Nature Preserve. Registration begins at 7:00 a.m.The sixteenth annual June E. Nylen Cancer Center Race for Hope, sponsored by U. S. Bank and Scheels, is much more than a race. The Race for Hope honors and celebrates cancer survivorship, in addition to giving the community an event to run – walk – visit – laugh – eat – connect. One hundred percent of the funds stay here to benefit Siouxland cancer patients and their families. This year funding requests include radiation treatment equipment, flat screen TVs for chemotherapy patient rooms, personalized fitness program for cancer survivors, new exam room chairs for patient comfort, patient assistance fund, and wigs for the wig boutique and more!George Glass, honorary race ambassador and runner said -- when life throws its ugliest, most awful challenge at you, you can make a choice: either sit there and ask why me and feel sorry for yourself; or you can choose to fight and run and live like you always have. So to all of you that have had cancer affect you in some way, I challenge you to run like you never ran before and we together can take first place and cancer can take second. Glass is joined by youth ambassador, Reed Eckert. All participants have the opportunity to honor people touched by cancer or remember a loved one by denoting their names on a special race bib. Kid’s activities, prizes, great food and the beautiful trails of the Preserve will be part of the festivities.“The event growth over the last sixteen years is a tribute to our community giving of themselves for others,” says Pat Hubbard, director of fund development. “I encourage everyone to get behind this effort. Thanks, in advance, for your support.”Pre-registration is encouraged by visiting www.nylencancercenter.com. The fee to participate is $35 for adults and $10 for kids under age 10.
