Due to construction into Adams Nature Preserve… arrive early and carpool if possible.
Parking will be at the Homestead behind Adam’s along Suncoast Drive.

Please follow the signs and volunteers directing you to parking.

Handicapped parking only will be available at Adams Nature Preserve visitors center.

Also, please pay attention to others along the race course as walkers and runners cross paths at certain points.


*Bibs and shirts can be picked up at Scheel’s on Friday, September 16th from 12:00 noon to 6pm and prior to the race at Adam’s Nature Preserve.

There will be a Packet Pick-Up on Friday, September 16th 2016 from 12 noon to 6pm  at Scheels in the Southern Hills Mall (4480 Sergeant Rd). Pick up your packet and shirt if you have registered by September 1st, 2016.

We strongly encourage you to pick up your packet on Friday, September 16th if possible, if not, Race day registration and packet pick-up will begin at 7:30 a.m. at the shelter house at:

Adams Nature Preserve
McCook Lake, SD

From I-29, Exit at #4 McCook Lake. Proceed 1 mile west with parking at the Dakota Valley School due to construction.  See more details as we get closer to the event for parking details.

Yes, this will be located at the Dakota Valley School with shuttle service to the race.

The course is located along the beautiful Adams Nature Trail, and each mile will be marked. Water and maps will be available along the course.

Race timing is managed by Precision Race Results.

There will be activities for children between 9 and 11 a.m. near the Welcome Center.  Face painting, games, door prizes and more. Kids can run the 1K at 8:35 and then enjoy these activities. Please make sure your child is accompanied by a responsible friend, parent or guardian.

Pets: Pets are welcomed if they do not present a safety issue for participants. All dogs and cats must be leashed.

Portable restroom facilities will be available onsite.

The entry fees are as follows:

5K (Untimed, non-competitive): $25 pre-registration (through 9/1  at 11:59 PM US/Central)

5K Competitive (Timed): $30 pre-registration (through 9/1  at 11:59 PM US/Central)

Kids Fun Run at 8:35: $10.00 pre-registration (through 9/1  at 11:59 PM US/Central)

15K Competitive (Timed): $30 pre-registration or $15 for students 19 and younger (through 9/1  at 11:59 PM US/Central)

Late Registration: $45 (9/1 at 11:59 PM US/Central through 9/16 at 5:00 PM US/Cental)

Please Note: Day of registration is limited to UNTIMED races only – if you would like to participate in a timed race, you must register by September 16th.

Shirts guaranteed for 5K, 15K, Kid’s entries received before September 1, 2016.

All adult shirts will be long sleeve dry-fit, half zip shirts with thumb holes.  (Unisex sizes and run long in length)

Kids will have grey dri-fit, short sleeve shirts

The children in strollers do not need to register for the race. Only those pushing the strollers must register.

Mail in registrations are accepted if postmarked by September 10.

Day of registration is only available for UNTIMED races – to participate in a timed race, you must be registered by September 16th.

There will be a post-race celebration with food from Chili’s and fruit from Rosenthal foods for all paid participants. Event day activities will also be included.

Prizes will be awarded in the following categories:

Overall Awards will be given to 5K and 15K competitors in the following categories:

1st, 2nd and 3rd Open male and female winners

1st, 2nd and 3rd Masters male and female winners

Prizes are valued as follows: 1st Place $100; 2nd Place $75 and 3rd $50

Age Group Awards: Awards will be given to the top 3 men and women not winning an overall category prize in the following age groups:

14 & Under; 15-19; 20-24; 25-29; 30-34; 35-59; 40-44; 45-49; 50-54; 55-59; 60-54; 65-59; 70 & over 

No one is eligible to win both age group and overall awards – one or the other.

Pledges and donations are very much appreciated.  We encourage you to seek donations from your family and circle of friends and co-workers.  These gifts can honor you as a participant; or they may honor someone the donor wishes to celebrate or remember.  Donations and pledges are also welcome on the day of the event.  Please check with your human resources department at work to apply for corporate matching funds! Set a personal goal of raising $150.

Registration and donations can be made online at nylencancercenter.com or by printing a pledge form here or picking one up at the Cancer Center.

Please have checks made payable to June E. Nylen Cancer Center. Please bring your completed pledge sheet(s) with donations and matching funds forms to the Cancer Center by Friday, September 16 or to the packet pick-up area on the morning of the event. Photocopies of pledge and registration forms are accepted. The June E. Nylen Cancer Center is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt not-for-profit corporation.  Pledges and donations are tax deductible to the extent provided by law.

If the Race for Hope event is cancelled due to circumstances beyond our control, no refunds will given. Your fee or sponsorship is then considered a tax deductible contribution to the June E. Nylen Cancer Center.

Survivors may have the word “survivor” printed on the back of their shirt (see registration form).

The Race for Hope has a long history of providing special bibs for participants to honor a survivor or remember someone lost to cancer.  These bibs will be provided again this year at packet pick up and Race day.  If you are walking or running with a group to honor or remember a survivor, please let us know your team/group’s name by adding it to your registration form.

All proceeds (100%) from this event go directly to the June E. Nylen Cancer Center to benefit programs and services for the patients of the Cancer Center and their families.

In the past, the Race for Hope has provided:

  • Van service for patients
  • Blinds for skylight in chemo room
  • Lobby update and artwork
  • Art therapy  and supplies
  • Snacks for health-conscious patients
  • LIVESTRONG program at the YMCA for patients


The 2016 event will be a double celebration for Jean Gill, who will be honored as race ambassador as she serves her final year as race director.


Kirsten Playback will perform at this year’s Siouxland Race for Hope

Kirsten Plambeck from Scottsdale, AZ, will be with us on Saturday, September 17th to sing the National Anthem at the start of the Race for Hope!

She will also perform on stage at the Post Race Party. Don’t miss it!
