JENCC Receives M.R.H.D. Grant to Help With Patients' Side Effects
The June E. Nylen Cancer Center is extremely grateful to be a recipient of the Missouri River Historical Development (M.R.H.D.) Spring Grant program. The funds we are receiving from this grant will help us give our patients the additional support to manage the difficult side effects of their already challenging cancer diagnosis and treatment.
Our chemotherapy nurses give extensive education to each new patient on their chemotherapy treatment and their particular side effects. Despite this, patients are sometimes not prepared for when and where the effects start. Other patients do not have the financial means to purchase what is recommended for their side effects. The side effects of chemo drugs can be significant, unpredictable, and debilitating and make cancer treatment more difficult to manage. Side effects really can impact cancer patients’ quality of life.
This M.R.H.D. grant will help us purchase 1,300 Treatment Support Kits to send home each new chemotherapy patient over the next year and provide them with what they need to be prepared for their side effects.
A group from Leadership Siouxland also “adopted” the Treatment Support Kits as their community project and donated 500 bags towards the project and developed an encouragement card to add a personal touch to each Kit.
Thank you for helping us manage symptoms to decrease distress and improve outcomes. We very much appreciate your support of the June E. Cancer Center’s mission – you really will help us make a difference to our Siouxland patients. You can read more about our Symptom Management efforts here.
