1st Annual Quilting Bee to Benefit June E Nylen Cancer Center
Hosted by the Siouxland Samplers Quilt GuildOn Saturday, February 8, 2014, the Siouxland Samplers Quilt Guild will host a Quiltin’ Bee at the First Presbyterian Church, 608 Nebraska St. in Sioux City, Iowa from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.Any quilter, quilt lover, fiber artist, fabric collector, and late-night sewer is encouraged to attend. Registration forms are available by calling Leslie Walker at 712-870-3474. Registration deadline is January 13, 2014. If you enjoy making quilts, sleeping under quilts, or just looking at quilts, this event is for you. Table space is available for a $35.00 donation to the June E. Nylen Cancer Center. The cost includes table space to work on any projects of your choice, one raffle ticket and a goody bag. Bring your own projects, sewing machine and sewing kit. Irons, ironing boards, cutting mats and long rulers will be provided for your use. Lunch will be provided for a free will offering.The event is open to the public from and you don’t have to be a quilter to bid on small quilts, and numerous silent auction items (concert tickets, gift certificates for many restaurants, oil changes, and much more). All proceeds from this event go to the June E. Nylen Cancer Center to support the Patient Assistance Fund. It provides financial support for cancer patients to receive help with daily living expenses such as rent/mortgage payments, utilities bills, travel expenses and home-care services.“Our support services are critical to help patients with the concerns that come with treatment,” says Pat Hubbard, fund development director. “Many patients’ worlds turn upside down with a diagnosis. They struggle to travel here for needed therapy. They miss work. They can’t afford medications and supplies to reduce ill side effects.
