Care Enough to Wear Pink!
Sioux City Professional Firefighters Association and IAFF Local7 have donated $2,000 to the June E. Nylen Cancer Center. The gift represents proceeds fromthe sale of t-shirts for their “Care Enough to Wear Pink” campaign.“We saw that fire departments across the United States were celebrating Breast Cancer Awareness month in October so we decided to support people in our own community,” said George Glass, firefighter and organizer of the event. “We had pink t-shirts designed and sold them during the month of October at several firehouses in Sioux City and the response was tremendous! We sold out in less than three weeks.”The Cancer Center will use the money to fund screenings through the Fight like a Girl free mammogram program, which pays for screening mammograms to underserved women in the community.“We are very grateful for the support of the Sioux City Professional Firefighters Association and IAFF Local 7,” said Pat Hubbard, Director of Fund Development with the June E. Nylen Cancer Center. “The Siouxland community will benefit from this significant donation.”The Cancer Center directs charitable donations to programs that help patients and their families. Other areas where donations help include the Cancer Center’s resource room filled with books, videos, wigs, hats and turbans; and patient assistance for those who need financial resources for ongoing daily living expenses. For more information, contact Pat Hubbard, Director of Fund Development at the Cancer Center, 712.252.9352 or email hubbardp@jencc.com.
