Carrie Mach Memorial Golf Outing a Success despite rain-out
Golfers hit the fairway August 2 and Aug. 23 for the 13th annual Carrie Mach Memorial Golf Outing at Whispering Creek Golf Club. The originally schedule date of August 2, Carrie's birthday, was rained out on the second hole. Golfers still celebrated over a steak dinner, promising to return on the 23rd.Over $42,500 was raised from the golf outing. These funds will be used to help people touched by cancer at Mercy Medical Center, the June E. Nylen Cancer Center and Hospice of Siouxland. In total the golf outing has raised over $460,000 since 2001.The outing is an annual ritual of the Mach family – a calling to continue Carrie’s mission of love. Carrie died in 2000 at the age of 17 after a long battle with cancer. Despite her own debilitating illness, Carrie reached out to help others. She volunteered for children’s causes and cancer-related efforts, and often ministered to those who needed hope and encouragement. Because of Carrie’s courage and compassion, Rick, Ann and the Mach family and friends continue her work by raising money for cancer care in Siouxland.Next year’s event is scheduled for Friday, August 1, 2014.For more information please contact Rick Mach, (712) 224-5010.
