Evidence of Our Dedication to Continuous Quality Improvement

One of the June E. Nylen Cancer Center’s key principles that guide our organization is QUALITY. We pursue safety and excellence in order to improve outcomes for our patients by creating an environment which supports collaboration, mutual trust, and authentic communication. These are just some of the ways to show our dedication to continuous quality improvement:

QOPI® Certified: Our cancer center’s care is recognized by a national organization. We are certified through the QOPI® Certification Program, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Association for Clinical Oncology, and an affiliate of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). In order to achieve this Certification, our medical oncology and hematology program has met or exceeded a benchmark score on numerous measures that compare the quality of care against national standards. To earn this voluntary certification we undergo an on-site survey and peer review by a select team of oncology professionals at least once every three years.

Oncology Certified Nurse: Ensuring you receive the very best care possible at our cancer center. Many of our nurses are recognized as Oncology Certified Nurses from the Oncology Nursing Society, the nation’s only accredited oncology-specific certification program for registered nurses. A nurse becoming OCN certified is voluntary and requires a minimum of 2,000 hours of adult oncology nursing practice, a set number of hours of nursing continuing education in oncology, and a rigorous test. There are additional standards for renewal every four years.

ACRO Accredited: We have a radiation therapy treatment program of national excellence. We are accredited by the American College of Radiation Oncology for quality patient care including the safe and effective use of radiation therapy. The review process includes the facility, staffing, policies, treatment programs, and actual case reviews. This accreditation is a voluntary process done every three years.

COLA Accredited: Our lab has the highest standards of quality in all its day-to-day operations, demonstrates continued accuracy in the performance of proficiency testing, and complies with all regulatory requirements as shown by accreditation from the Commission on Office Laboratory Association (COLA), a leading national laboratory accreditor. This voluntary process is completed every two years.

NCORP Member: Our team of clinical research associates works with doctors, nurses, and laboratory staff to identify patients who qualify for available research studies and clinical trials. Our cancer center brings patients the benefits of several research groups through its membership with the National Cancer Institute (NCI) Community Oncology Research Program.

ACR Accredited: The American College of Radiology has recognized our cancer center for clinical excellence in imaging services including CT scan, PET scan, and low-dose CT lung screening. ACR accreditation is recognized as the gold standard in medical imaging. Patients receive the region’s safest and highest quality diagnostic services at our facility. Accreditation is completed voluntarily every three years and includes a thorough review of personnel qualifications, equipment requirements, quality assurance, and quality control procedures.
