FREE Skin Cancer Screening Being Held on Tuesday, March 24

The Siouxland community has the opportunity to attend a free skin cancer screening at the June E. Nylen Cancer Center on Tuesday, March 24 from 5-7:30pm.  To register, please call (712) 252-9302. Walk-ins will be welcome, but scheduling an appointment is strongly encouraged to reduce your wait time.

The goal of this event is to encourage adults who have not been checked by their family physician to take advantage of the free screenings.  Local dermatologists from Midlands Clinic and Tri-State Specialists will provide a full body check, or you can request to have a particular spot or area checked.

Early diagnosis is important before any cancer can spread to other organs. If detected early, the 5-year survival rate for skin cancer is 99%.According to the American Cancer Society, skin cancer was one of the top five cancer diagnosis in Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota in 2019. Also, one in five American will develop skin cancer by the age of 70. Symptoms include:

  • A = asymmetrical moles or skin spots

  • B = border that is jagged or irregular

  • C = color that is uneven

  • D = diameter larger than a pea

  • E – evolved/changed over weeks or months

Having 5 or more sunburns doubles your risk for skin cancer. The American Academy of Dermatology Association recommends checking your skin regularly and reporting changes to your doctor and says the best screening is a full skin examination with a dermatologist.Please help us spread the word by sharing this poster.
