Highlights of Our Fiscal Year 2024

Proud to Provide Advanced Comprehensive Cancer Services to Siouxland

The providers and staff at the June E. Nylen Cancer Center (JENCC) are proud to offer comprehensive cancer care to the Siouxland region. We are working tirelessly to strengthen and expand our services to ensure we are offering the most advanced cancer diagnosis and treatment options locally.

The National Institutes of Health predicts the demand for cancer treatment to grow by 40% in the near future. Per the Cancer in Iowa Report 2024 that was released earlier this year by the Iowa Cancer Registry, Iowa has the second highest incidence rate for cancers in the United States and is the only state with an increasing rate of cancer. Iowa also has the fastest-growing rates of breast cancer nationwide and mammogram rates aren’t increasing; prostate cancer is also prevalent, particularly in the northwest and western parts of the state; and Iowa has one of the fastest-increasing rates of melanoma in the country. Additionally, Iowa has shown the least progress of all states in reducing lung cancer incidence over the last few decades.

The data and statistics are alarming, but our focus remains steadfast - positioning our organization to provide the best cancer care now and into the future, centered on the principle that we don’t just treat cancer, we treat people and believe it’s purposeful and a privilege.

Despite our greatest challenges of recruiting oncologists and increasing medication/treatment costs, I am proud of the ongoing commitment of the JENCC team to pursue safety and excellence to improve outcomes for our patients by creating an environment that supports quality, communication, trust, and collaboration – both internally and with additional medical practices. Through coordinated teamwork, we personalize the care of patients to ensure the best experience possible.

Our immediate goals focus on those areas as well as the renovation and expansion project of our chemotherapy infusion prep area and medically integrated dispensary, two behind-the-scenes areas of our Cancer Center that critically support what our medical team needs to care for the thousands of patients we treat each year. This construction project was delayed a year due to increased costs – it will be a total of $2.3 million. This pause allowed us more time to raise funds for the project which we will plan to move forward with after the new year. Additionally, we will continue to explore the addition of new targeted and advanced treatments within our service lines and changing to a new accrediting body that holds our organization to even higher standards.

Thank you for trusting the June E. Nylen Cancer Center to care for you and your loved ones and thank you to those that support our mission of providing hope and healing close to home.
