The fifteenth annual June E. Nylen Cancer Center Race for Hope held Saturday, September 17 at the Adams Homestead & Nature Preserve in McCook Lake, SD, was a success, attracting nearly 700 participants. Over $44,000 was raised for the event, thanks in part to our Premier Sponsor U.S. Bank and generous support from the community.“This year’s flooding impacted all of us just as cancer touches all of us in some way,” said Jean Gill, race director who has volunteered her time to organize the race for the past 15 years. “We felt that it was important to have the race this year and to continue to support patients and families on their cancer journey.”Those who turned out to support the June E. Nylen Cancer Center competed in a 1K fun run for kids, a 5K or 15K run or walk, and enjoyed food donated by Chili’s.New to the race this year is a traveling trophy which will be on display at the schools of the winners from the boy and girl division of the 1K race. The honors this year went to Nick McGowan – home schooled and McKenna Moats – Akron Westfield.“We appreciate Denny Gann, Honorary Race Ambassador and Sam McGowan, Honorary Youth Race Ambassador for their support this year,” said Gill. “Their commitment in helping the cancer center and making a difference in the lives of so many people here in Siouxland fighting cancer inspires all of us to give more of ourselves.”One hundred percent of the funds raised stay here in Siouxland and enhances the quality of care given to patients and their families.
