Third Annual ATV Poker Run & Cancer Benefit Ride Raises Funds for JENCC Patient Assistance Fund

The third annual ATV Poker Run & Cancer Benefit Ride on Saturday, July 22 was a wonderful day! This year a record $6,720 was raised for the June E. Nylen Cancer Center’s Patient Assistance Fund. That brings the total raised over all three years to more than $15,000.

Financial toxicity in medicine describes problems a patient has related to the cost of medical care. Several studies show that cancer patients are more likely to have financial toxicity than people with other diseases as cancer is one of the most expensive medical conditions to treat in the United States. Cancer treatment can affect your ability to work and sometimes the stress of how you will cover the cost of your treatment and other expenses during treatment is just as great as the actual diagnosis.

Our Patient Assistance Fund provides support to qualifying patients to aid with non-medical expenses such as mortgage/rent, utilities, transportation, groceries, and other needs. This allows them to free up funds for their out-of-pocket treatment expenses, thus relieving a little worry in order to focus on healing.

Thank you to all organizers, sponsors, and participants for your help to break down barriers to treatment and give hope, strength, and encouragement to our patients when they need it most. Thank you again for your generous support!
