Third Annual Cancer Sucks! Comedy Rocks! raises over $16,000
The third annual Cancer Sucks - Comedy Rocks event held Saturday, April 12 at the Marina Center included four local comedians and the headliner Pat McGann from Chicago. Over 700 people attended the event which raised more than $16,000 through ticket sales, sponsors, and a silent auction. Proceeds benefit the June E. Nylen Cancer Center.“Pat McGann, Don Reese, myself, Drake Strong and Drew Jr. had attendees in stitches,” said John Olson, organizer. It seemed like everyone had a great time."The auction, musical entertainment and the 501st Garrison Legion were a big hit with Don Reese and Pat McGann receiving standing ovations. Olson plans to build on this year's successful event by planning an even bigger event for next year. He remembers his father, Kenny Olson, who passed away from cancer in 2011.“The Cancer Center appreciates John Olson and the committee who planned and fundraised for the Cancer Center," said Pat Hubbard, director of fund development. "We are looking forward to next year. We will use the funds to help people obtain mammograms and colonoscopies who are unable to afford them."For more information contact Pat Hubbard at 712.252.9426 or email hubbardp@jencc.com.
