Winter Benefit to honor Stars and Angels on Feb. 19
Area residents are invited to the June E. Nylen Cancer Center’s Winter Benefit Saturday, Feb. 19, at the Marina Inn Hotel and Conference Center, South Sioux City, Neb. Deb Smith of Lawton and Denise Wilson of Sioux City are volunteer leaders of the event. The past year’s theme “Stars & Angels Among Us” is tweaked this year to bring in an Irish theme. This is the 13th anniversary for the event, which has grown to be the cancer center’s signature fund-raiser, raising nearly $200,000 in 2010. Guests at the Stars & Angels-themed benefit will enjoy appetizers, dinner, live and silent auctions and more. The fund-raiser will support colon screenings for the underserved in Siouxland. Hundreds of low-income men and women have been able to obtain screenings because of funding from special events like the Winter Benefit.“Having a mammogram at age 40 and a colon check at age 50 can help find and diagnose cancer early enough to save lives,” said Pat Hubbard, director of fund development. For more info, call Hubbard at 712-252-0088.The evening's agenda is as follows:5:30 p.m. Social5:30 – 8:30 Silent Auction7:00 dinner7:30 awards program8:15 live auctionRead our story and see photos from the 2010 event.
