Woodbury Central Students Get Creative to Help Cancer Patients

Woodbury Central Students Get Creative to Help Cancer PatientsSioux City, Iowa. – Woodbury Central Community School’s Character Education students made blankets, hats and bags for patients at the June E. Nylen Cancer Center. More than twenty high school students contributed to this project which is under the direction of Vicki McElrath and Tiffany Manker.“Cancer touches almost everyone in one way or another; a friend, neighbor or a relative. When I lost my dad to cancer last year, his courage became more evident to me than ever. Knowing he had such a special place with such special people to help him and our family made it much easier. Our family learned a new appreciation for the words “courage” and “caring”, said Vicki McElrath, para-educator, Woodbury Central Community School. “Mrs Manker and I wanted to show our mentor groups real “caring”, we believe this is one of the best places to do it.”The blankets, hats and bags will keep patients warm this winter and give them a little gift during the holiday season. “The June E. Nylen Cancer Center appreciates the hard work and talent of these young people to help our patients,” said Pat Hubbard, director of fund development. The Woodbury Central Character Education Program is for high school students interested in learning how to build character and give back to the community. For more information, contact Pat Hubbard, Director of Fund Development at the CancerCenter at 712.252.9352.
