185th Refueling Wing named Race Ambassador 2010
Press Release. Ali Langseth formally transferred her 2009 title of June E. Nylen Cancer Center’s Honorary Race Ambassador to her emissary, the 185th Air Refueling Wing, Iowa Air National Guard, in a brief ceremony Tuesday, July 13 at 9:00 a.m. at Adams Homestead and Nature Preserve.Langseth, served as the Cancer Center’s race ambassador at the annual event in September, 2009. “Ali was a strong catalyst in creating awareness throughout the community and was instrumental in helping to increase participation in the race,” said Jean Gill, volunteer race director. “The goal this year is to have 1000 people participate in this amazing and life-changing event.”For the first time, the Cancer Center has chosen a group – the 185th Air Refueling Wing of the Iowa Air National Guard – to lead its Race for Hope. Marty Hogan is serving as the spokesperson. Many members of the Iowa National Guard have been touched by cancer and will be running as Team 185th with a challenge to have 150 guard members participate. In the spirit of competition US Bank, premier sponsor of this year’s race, has agreed to donate additional funds if the 185th meets this goal.“The 185th Air Refueling Wing considers it to be a great honor to be selected as this year’s ambassadors,” said Marty Hogan, GS-11/MSgt, 185th spokesman. “The 185th prides itself on a long-standing tradition of positive community presence. It is in this presence that we are allowed to return the great partnership and support shown to us by the local Siouxland community.”The 14th annual Race for Hope event is Saturday, September 18, 7:30 a.m. at the Adams Homestead and Nature Preserve and features a 15K and 5K run or walk and a kids’ fun run. There are individual and team competitions as well as a leisurely walking-for-fun entry.“This year’s proceeds will be used to purchase new chemotherapy treatment chairs; a fitness program for cancer patients in partnership with the Norm Waitt Sr. YMCA; establishing a support group for kids whose loved ones have cancer and funding for lobby enhancements for the benefit of our cancer patients,” said Pat Hubbard, Director of Fund Development at the June E.
