Employees Step Forward for New Giving Campaign
In 2009, the June E. Nylen Cancer Center called upon its employees to give to its patients in a new way: through an employee giving campaign.Donors stepped forward in a big way.In a campaign directed to employees of the June E. Nylen Cancer Center and at Medical Oncology Hematology, 37 percent participated, raising more than $7,000. That’s an average annual gift of more than $197.Kay Kurth, a Clinical Research Associate with Medical Oncology Hematology, and her husband supported the effort. “My husband’s parents both used the cancer center, and we are so grateful they did not need to travel far for treatment. We understand first-hand how important this was to us, and remains for all people touched by cancer in the Siouxland area.”In a letter to employees, Center director Karen Van De Steeg outlined the campaign. “With your help, our patients will benefit from resources we are able to provide such as wigs, turbans and hats; financial assistance, food and life-saving community screenings.”“We will continue to contribute so that current patients and future patients can receive the best of care in Siouxland,” Kurth said. That support is invaluable, Van De Steeg said. “Even in these tough times, we are impressed that we have such great employees who are willing to support this much-needed cause. We know that in good economic times, our support will continue to grow and prosper,” she said.
