June E. Nylen Cancer Center Now Part Of Strands of Strength

The June E. Nylen Cancer Center has a beautiful wig boutique that offers patients a selection of wigs and hats free of charge. Our wig boutique and all the supplies have been funded through generous donations to help patients feel their best during treatment.

To expand our commitment of supporting our patients with additional expert care, we are excited to announce JENCC is now part of Strands of Strength. Established in 2011 by a cancer survivor, Strands of Strength (SOS) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide new wigs to patients with selection and styling support free of charge to cancer patients with hair loss due to treatment.

Wigs that disguise hair loss can decrease feelings of vulnerability and provide greater self-esteem.

Louanne Zortman of Sioux City is a Strands of Strength partner salon and will help our June E. Nylen Cancer Center patients remove their thinning hair, select a wig with the appropriate fit and style, and show them how to care for their new hair.   Louanne owns “You’ve Got Nails & More” salon and has been a hairstylist for 41 years.  

“Confidence and strength are key elements for empowerment during hair loss due to cancer treatment,” says Louanne. “Strands of Strength help patients regain that confidence. These wigs help patients look better, feel better, and rejoin the community during treatment. It’s a simple solution that instills patients with the optimism and self-esteem to raise their chance of victory over cancer.”

To receive a free wig and styling through JENCC and Strands of Strength:

1.      You must be a patient at our Cancer Center to receive benefits from this program.  If interested, a member of the navigation team will be happy to assist you. 

2.      Once you receive a voucher, you can make an appointment with Louanne.  She will assist you in selecting a wig and styling it if the wig allows it.  The voucher will have the phone number to call to set up the appointment. 

3.      When your wig is ready, pay for it using your Strands of Strength voucher, which covers all costs.
