U.S. Bank, SCHEELS Support Race for Hope

U.S. Bank has signed on for the second time as a three-year sponsor of the Race for Hope. The Sioux City SCHEELS store will again fund the fitness program for cancer survivors.This year marks the fourth year that US Bank has taken the lead as a premier sponsor of the Race for Hope. Bank employees also provide support to the participants on the Race course."U.S. Bank supports the Race for Hope because the proceeds can help the June E. Nylen Cancer Center assist the many people in our region impacted by this terrible disease," said president Darin Daby.For the second year in a row, SCHEELS has donated to the Race to fund the personalized fitness program for cancer survivors which the cancer center developed three years ago in partnership with the Norm Waitt Sr. YMCA. The program is one that is targeted for funding from the Race for Hope event proceeds. The money will enroll at least 75 cancer survivors in the next year.“SCHEELS likes to give back to programs, such as this fitness partnership, where the funds stay local,” said Penni McIntosh, Donations Manager/Event Coordinator. “This program is one that SCHEELS feels makes a vital difference in the lives of people in our community.”Proceeds from this year's Race for Hope will support various programs and services at the Cancer Center. In addition to the survivors fitness program, funds will be allocated to cancer screenings for the uninsured or underinsured; partial funding for the Cancer Center's patient navigator position; enhancements for radiation therapy; assistance for patients suffering a financial hardship with their cancer diagnosis; art therapy classes for cancer patients; Betsy Bags with supplies to help cancer patients suffering from sudden nausea episodes; healthy snacks for patients waiting in the Cancer Center lobby; and more.Other businesses supporting the event this year include Hy-Vee Food Stores; KCAU-TV; Walmart, Singing Hills; Clear Channel Radio stations; Pacific City Graphics; Avery Bros.; Chili's; Sioux City Journal; Family Healthcare of Sioux City; Mercy Medical Center; Siouxland Women's Health and Siouxland Golf Charities.This year’s signature fundraiser is Saturday, September 21 at Adams Homestead & Nature Preserve; registration begins at 7:00 a.m. Participants can walk or run and compete for awards. Events include a 5K, 15K and a 1K for kids. In the 1K kids division, children can compete for a traveling school trophy.
