A Healthy You: LIVESTRONG at the YMCA

LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is a free twelve-week, small group program designed for adult cancer survivors. This program fulfills the important need of supporting the increasing number of cancer survivors who find themselves in the transitional period between completing their cancer treatment and the shift to feeling physically and emotionally strong enough to attempt to return to their normal life or their “new normal”. The program is conducted outside of medical facilities to emphasize that LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is about health, not disease!Free to participants with strong personal desire to improve physical and mental wellbeing. Meets twice weekly for twelve weeks.livestrongymcaLIVESTRONG at the YMCA staff have been specially trained to work with cancer survivors and patients and follow American College of Sports Medicine and American Cancer Society exercise guidelines for post-cancer rehab exercise. They’re experts who understand the unique physical needs and concerns of cancer survivors and can safely help address them. Our supportive instructors work with each participant and fit the program to their individual needs.Medical studies have shown that moderate levels of appropriate physical activity can reduce fatigue, boost self-esteem and improve muscle strength and physical endurance in individuals following cancer treatment. LIVESTRONG at the YMCA was created to help address the limited availability of physical activity programs specifically for cancer survivors.Consult your oncologist or a hospital oncology representative before joining the program for medical clearance. For more information, contact Jacque Perez at jperez@nwsymca.org.Click here to register online!
